What you'll need:

MAC Sunny Spot

MAC Steamy

MAC Deep Blue Green Pigment

Wet n Wild Vanity Palette

Black eyeliner

L'Oreal Voluminous Million Lashes

Instructions

Apply a skintone base all over the eyelid up to the brow bone.

Apply the soft brown matte colour from the Vanity palette to the the crease area and blend.

Pat on the matte vanilla shade from the same palette to the brow bone area as your highlight.

Spray a flat shader brush with a mixing medium of your choice or just damp it with water.

Use the same brush to apply Sunny Spot the inner third of your lid. You will patience for this.

Apply Sunny Spot as much as needed for it to show up noticeably. This will take about 15 minutes.

Turning over the same brush apply Deep Blue Green Pigment to the rest of the lid by patting it and then sweep a little into the crease.

Using another shader brush tap on Steamy where Sunny Spot and Deep Blue Green meets.

Blend the colours together.

Using a pencil brush, line the bottom lashline with DBG.

With a black eyeliner, liner the bottom waterline. Then line the top lashline and wing out the eyeliner slightly at the outer corners.

Finally, apply a coat or two of L'Oreal's Voluminous Million Lashes mascara.

How I Stretch In Between Relaxers

I'm currently doing a 12 week relaxer stretch with 4 more weeks remaining. Sigh. If you have ever done a relaxer stretch before, you would know that dealing with the two different textures on your head can be a bit challenging to the point of being frustrating. Or, if you have been contemplating attempting to stretch your relaxers, here's what I have learned through my own trial and error.

1. Moisture is your ~~friend~~ lover.

Yup, that's right. Get really nice and comfy with moisture, because that is what is going to save you through out this whole journey. I've found that the best way to infuse moisture into your locks is by deep conditioning. I deep condition on a weekly basis using Organic Root Stimulator (ORS) Replenishing Conditioner. This conditioner leans heavily on the moisture side and a bit less on the protein side. I usually mix it with coconut, olive and castor oils and leave on my hair covered with a plastic cap for about an hour and then I rinse it out. I've found that this method has softened up my new growth like no other, making it very easy to manage and groom through the week. I found that since I've done this on a weekly basis that my roots no longer feel matted or dry and they are easy to comb through on mornings, sometimes I only need to use a brush!

2. Almond Oil is where it's at.

I no longer buy hair moisturizers to "grease" my scalp. Nosiree, I only use almond oil (a.k.a. sweet almond oil) on my scalp during the week. I keep it in one of those applicator bottles that you can find at your local beauty supply store. I apply it to my scalp about twice a week or to any dry patches through out my head. Almond oil is easily absorbed by the hair shaft and its full of vitamins like A, B1, B2, B6 and E. It makes my hair soft and smooth and also gives it a healthy shine. Remember also to apply the oil to the rest of the hair right down to the ends. You can then seal it by using castor oil or glycerine.

3. Protective Styling is a must.

For me, this just means wearing my hair in a bun every day. How exciting. I just make sure to tuck my ends under and secure with a bobby pin. Some people prefer to use wigs, half wigs or pieces of weaves and there is nothing wrong with that.

Well that's how I do my stretch in between relaxers. Nothing strenuous or amazing but consistancy is the key to getting good results. I hope this tips help someone!

L'Oreal Voluminous Million Lashes

L'Oreal Voluminous Million Lashes mascara promises you lashes that looks a million times multiplied and perfectly defined. Okay let's stop right here. That is just plain old exaggeration and hyped up marketing. We all know that isn't going to happen.

But what does happen is that you do get nicely defined lashes that do look fuller than before. This is mainly due to the fact that the formula is rather wet so, it's easier to work through the lashes with the wand. Now the wand is a thing of beauty. The brush itself is fat with a slight hourglass shade with lots of short individual bristles. These bristles seperate the lashes from root to tips with very few clumps. All in all, this mascara lasts all day until you wash it off and it doesn't flake off or smudge. Rating: 4.4/5.

NYX Eyeshadow in Golden Dune

NYX eyeshadow in Golden Dune looks like a deep bronzed gold in the pan but it's actually an antiqued gold when swatched.
It actually reminds me of MAC's Woodwinked but Woodwinked has a bit more copper in it, while Golden Dune is more cool toned. NYX eyeshadows are generally soft and well pigmented with a smooth texture. General wear time is around 6-8 hours. Rating: 4/5.

This look is a combination of MAC's Old Gold pigment and Wet n Wild's Vanity Palette.
First prep the entire eye area up to under the eyebrow with your favourite concealer.

Using MAC's 239 brush apply the light shimmery vanilla shade from the Vanity Palette to the browbone.

Using a contour shadow brush, apply the matte soft brown shade to the entire crease area.

Lightly spray the 239 with a mixing medium and pick up some Old Gold. Pat Old Gold onto 2/3s of the eyelid.

Next, flip the 239 over and pick up the matte dark brown shade and pat onto the remainder of the lid and into the crease.

Using a blending brush, blend lightly where the two shadows meet in the crease.

Using the 266 brush, line the top lashline with Blacktrack fluidline.

Take a pencil brush a little of Old Gold and line half of the bottom lash line. Line the other half with the dark brown shadow.

Lightly line the lower waterline with a black eyeliner of your choice.

Finally, apply two coats of mascara.

MAC Daphne Guinness: Seasoned Plum Pro Longwear Lipcreme

Ok, let's start with the definition of a Pro Longwear Lipcreme.

The following has been taken directly from maccosmetics.com : Lightweight texture, creamy finish and comfortable longwear combine in this has-it-all pro-class lip colour. Slick in use, applies without need of a top coat- and still lasts up to 12 hours. Won't feather or transfer, and the colour stays true. Helps lips stay soft and hydrated.

Seasoned Plum is a limited edition shade that is now available in the Daphne Guinness collection. MAC describes the shade as a mid-tone lavender and I would say that MAC is pretty on point. It's a blue based medium purple with silver shimmer. Personally for me, this colour could have been done without the shimmer, because it doesn't really add anything to the product.

Now to the meat of the matter: the longevity or wear of the product. First of all, do not apply this product to bare lips. I had to for the basis of the review, but otherwise I would recommend to use a lip balm first. Although it applies creamily to lips, it does nothing to hydrate them. My lips felt drier after applying and the lines on my lips became more noticeable. It would say that the finish of this lipcreme is more matte than glossy. Now to the actual wear of the product. This product lasted about six hours on me. Yup, that's it. That's after consuming some grapes and two slices of rotisserie chicken pizza, most of the colour on the bottom lip was gone. The colour on the top lip had dulled but was mostly still in tact. Three hours later, its basically all gone, except for some silver shimmer residue. However, I must give it credit. It does not feather as promised, nor does it transfer. And this colour is sooo pretty. Actually, with all things considered, I would repurchase another one of the Pro Longwear Lipcremes mainly because I like the colours and the semi- matte finish. Rating: 3.9/5.

Milani Liquif'Eye Metallic Eyeliner Pencil in 04 Aqua

You've heard me raved about the black and gold versions of this eyeliner. As far as I'm concerned, the black is the best black eyeliner, ever! Hands down. No competitors, so how does the Aqua version stack up? Let's take a look.

Milani Liquif'Eye Metallic Eyeliner in Aqua is a beautiful teal blue colour with micro shimmer. The product itself is a bit on the soft side, so I won't recommend leaving this pencil anywhere that gets very hot. However, the product is creamy and glides smoothly with one swipe. There is no need to go over a spot more than once to get the intensity of the product. I tested it out on my lower lashline and it held up for about six hours before it started to fade. On the upper lashline, staying power was about eight hours. Rating: 4.6/5.

I've decided that I need to get back to the roots of this blog and show off some more colourful looks this year. Hope you guys like it!

What I used

120 palette 1st edition
NYX Brown eyeshadow
NYX Milk Jumbo Eyepencil
Kiss liquid eyeliner
Milani Colour Brilliance Eyeliner in Black
Maybelline XXL Pro Volume mascara

Instructions

First I prime the eye area with skintone concealer.

Next apply Milk to the eyelid and up to under the eyebrow and blend.

Using MAC 239 brush pack a blue based pink on the inner third of the eyelid.

Next to that using the same brush apply a yellow based pink to the middle of the eyelid.

Use the same brush to diffuse the line between the two colours.

Then apply a red based purple to the outer corner of the eyelid and into the crease.

Apply a skintone eyeshadow to the crease area ( I used NYX Brown) and blend out

Next apply a small amount of black shadow to the outer corner and blend into the crease using the MAC 217 blending brush.

Dab a light shimmery gold as your brow highlight and blend down towards the crease.

Line the top lashline with black liquid liner and wing out at the outer corner if desired.

Line the lower waterline with a black eyeliner.

Taking the MAC 266 angle brush, press a shimmery teal shadow under the waterline in a straight line, taking it slightly pass the outer corner of the eye.

Apply mascara and false lashes if desired.

Maybelline the Colossal Volum' Express Waterproof Mascara in Glam Black

Maybelline the Colossal Volum' Express Waterproof Mascara (sigh... what is it with cosmetic companies and the ridiculously long product names) is proclaimed to give your lashes seven times the volume they have normally. Now varifying these claims is practically next to impossible as I don't know how one sets about measuring the volume of one's eyelashes. I will just settle for whether they look fuller or not. Now does this product deliver? Let's see ...

No mascara ( plz ignore the funky eye look, I was testing various products)

Mascara

As you can see there is clearly lots of volume and thickness , the mascara clearly delivers on the volume front and it's definately waterproof. This mascara does not come off with just soap and water, you definately may need an oil based remover to remove the mascara completely in a short time.

Now here's why I don't like this mascara. First of all, it's dry. Being that the formula is so dry, it completely hinders the effectiveness of the big fat brush which a good job of seperating the lashes but the formula just clumps them up. Secondly and most importantly, this mascara stings my eyes. On testing day this mascara caused my right eye to run continuously for about 12 hours and it was also swollen. Now I never had any problems before with any eye products and I don't have allergies, so getting a reaction like this from a mascara quite surprised me. Rating: 2/5.

Chance Chanel Eau Tendre

Most of the perfumes I own tend to fall into the night time category, those that don't, fall into the sexy tropical beach on vacation category. So I didn't have any that fell into the fresh daytime, wear anywhere category and this is where Chance Chanel Eau Tendre comes in.

The product is described as, and I quote from the Sephora website "

CHANCE EAU TENDRE Eau de Toilette Spray reveals itself to be both delicate and radiant, with an intoxicatingly light, fruity trail. An unexpected mingling of grapefruit and quince meets the crispness of fresh green notes, while a trace of Jasmine Absolute lingers in the air. Gently warmed by a sheer veil of White Musk, at once, innocent and seductive. "

Mmmkay. Let's go with that. Now I purchased this perfume in person so I did the obligatory sniff test before purchase, I mean who really buys a brand new perfume without smelling it first? It had a light freshness to it with a powdery musk scent to deepen it. Perfect.

Now I bought this perfume about a month ago and I have worn it quite a few times and here's what I think: First off, I don't detect any grapefruit in this scent whatsoever. I really wished the grapefruit note was stronger because I think it's needed to offset the White Musk which to me is the strongest of all the notes. You can detect the fresh green notes fighting to come out from behind the White Musk , they don't win the battle but the effort is duly noted. I think if the top notes of grapefruit and quince were allowed to shine a bit more with the fresh green notes, I think we would have a perfume of great complexity and masterful engineering. Instead we have an almost run of the mill type fragrance which is unusual coming from the House of Chanel. The longevity of this fragrance is a bit questionable. I no longer smell this scent on me after three hours. However I have had persons who come up to me after seven hours and ask what scent I'm wearing. Which is a tiny bit disconcerting that people can smell you but you can't smell yourself. Anyhoo, appearantly alot of people tend to love this scent, unfortunately I'm not one of them. In conclusion, I will continue to wear this scent, because I don't hate it, to me it's just okay, nothing extraordinary.

NYX Mega Shine Lip gloss in Dolly Pink

NYX Mega Shine lip gloss in Dolly Pink is a bright blue based fuchsia pink. It doesn't contain any shimmer and it applies easily to the lips with the

slanted doe foot applicator. It has an almost completely opaque finish on my deeply pigmented lips. It has the standard medicinal cherry smell of NYX lipglosses, but thankfully the smell wears off quickly and the lipgloss is pretty much flavourless. The lipgloss it self lasts about an hour in really cold airconditioning and about three hours in regular temperatures. Rating: 4.4/5.

The Battle of the Glitter Eyeliners: Whose Sparkle reigns supreme?

LOL! I think I've been watching too much Iron Chef Japan. The two eyeliners facing off today will be NYX's Candy Glitter Liner in Jade Green and L.A. Colors Glitter Liner CGL721 3D (this is the only thing I could find on the container that could be a name).

NYX Candy Glitter Liner In Jade Green

The liner is a combination of green, blue and gold glitter in a clear gel. The brush is not that precise so the glitter applies a bit sparodic, so you would have to go an area several times to fill it in properly. However, the glitter liner removes easily with soap and water.

L.A. Colors Glitter Liner in CGL721 3D

Well I'm assuming since it has 3D in the name, that it's supposed to be a multi-dimensional glitter. Only problem is I don't know what multi-dimensional glitter is supposed to look like. I mean is it suppose to have 4 or 6 sides instead of 2? I don't know. Now the actual glitter is finer than NYX's. It's so fine that I can't say how it's really manufactured. The glitter is a mix of black and silver. The brush applicator is very small and precise so there is no skipping when applying. When the glitter liner dries it doesn't budge, so it takes a little muscle to remove it.

Final Thoughts

There really isn't a good vs bad eyeliner here. Both eyeliners get the job done, and done well. But given the price and application of L.A. Colours , it gets the edge over NYX.

Matte earth tone shadows from the 120 1st edition palette

NYX Candy Glitter Liner in Jade Green

MAC Blush in Band of Roses
Ruby Kisses Crystal Shine Lipstick in Radiant Fuchsia

Instructions

Apply a skin colour matte eyeshadow all over the lid. Apply a darker shade to the crease and blend. Line the top lash line with Milani Liquif'Eye in Black. Behind it that line follow it with Milani Color Brilliance in Green but add flick at the end. Apply NYX Candy Glitter Liner in Jade Green on top of the Green eyeliner. Line the bottom lashline with the black eyeliner. Add two coats of mascara to lashes or apply false eyelashes if you desire.

Apply Band of Roses to cheeks. Finally apply Radiant Fuchsia to the lips.

One of my followers, Lew, sent me this image and asked if the look could be re-created using a pencil eyeliner instead of a liquid one. So I decided to take on the challenge!

What you will need:

Purple eye shadow

Jordana Color Effects in High Maintenance

Pencil Eyeshadow brush

MAC 219

Black eyeliner

Milani Color Brilliance in Black

Instructions

Using the pencil brush, apply the eyeshadow to your eye area. Use a piece of scotch tape on the outer corner to get a clean edge.

Remove tape.

Next, make sure that your pencil is sharpened to a point. Holding the pencil flat against the skin, starting at the top of the inner corner draw a line down to the side of the nose. The starting at the bottom of the inner corner draw a line up to meet the first line. Using a liquid liner would give a more precise look.

Next, starting at the upper inner corner, draw a thick line on the upper lashline, flicking out at the outer corner. Line the bottom lashline and draw a line at the end to meet the end of the first line. It should look like a triangle without a bottom. There should be a little space between the two lines. Fill in that space with pencil.

Then line the lower waterline with the black eyeliner. Finally apply two coats of mascara to your top and bottom lashes and your done!

Victoria's Secret Mega Makeup Kit MAC dupes

I found only three true dupes out of the entire 64 eyeshadow colours, which I liked because it meant I won't have a lot of repeat colours.

The dupeable MAC shades are Stars N Rockets, Patina and Steamy.

The Stars N Rockets dupe is an exact match.

The VS Patina dupe has a bit more gold in it than the original MAC Patina.

The VS Steamy dupe has a tiny bit more blue than the original MAC Steamy.

Victoria's Secret VS Mega Makeup Kit

Victoria's Secret VS Mega Makeup Kit. Oh wow.... this is going to be one mega review (pun intended).

This kit contains 64 eyeshadows, 8 lipsticks, 8 glosses, 3 blushes, 2 bronzers and 1 illuminator. In all it's a 90 piece set. Victoria's Secret puts its estimated value at US$669 but it is retailing at US$50 on the website. However my biggest peeve is that they have up the wrong image of the product! The description is correct but when you look at the image they have displayed you can tell that it's the wrong one. And they are probably wondering why it isn't selling as well as it should. To buy this kit online go here. Before I get into the swatches and all of that goodness, let me just give you a brief synopsis: This kit right here, is a great addition to any makeup collection. The shadows are well formulated and definately can run with the department store big boys. The lipsticks - some are sheer while some are quite deep and well pigmented and the same goes for the glosses. I don't care for the blushes that much simply because of the colour choices but they are not chalky and can be built upon for colour. Again the bronzers and the illuminator do nothing for me but this merely more about colour choice than formulation. The four brushes it comes with, you can toss. I mean seriously they aren't worth using anyway. The kit is definately better than anything by coastal scents, Manly, Shany or any derivative thereof. The eyeshadows alone from the VS Mega Kit kicks anything by the former out of the water.

The kit is packaged in a sturdy covered cardboard and plastic container with magnetic closure. The top flap when opened has a good size mirror embedded in it. The VS Mega Kit consists of 4 levels with the two eyeshadow levels on top and two pull out trays containing the lip products and the blushes. I like it like this so that products don't fall into each other and ending up with eyeshadow in your gloss and vice versa.

Now on to the good stuff:

L-R: pearl light grey, pearl dove grey, shimmer grey, pearl grey-brown, pearl pale gold, shimmer new corn (that's the best description I could come up with), shimmer medium brown, shimmer brown with gold flecks.

The 2nd level

The first column:

L-R: pearl cool toned dark brown, matte chocolate brown, a pearl dark brown with gold shimmer (my favourite of the entire kit), shimmer gold, shimmer beige-gold, shimmer light gold (worse texture in kit, it's rather crumbly), pearl light beige-gold, matte pale beige.

The second column:

L-R: pearl light mauve with silver shimmer, pearl royal purple, pearl violet, pearl light pink, shimmer orange gold, shimmer light bronze, matte peach, shimmer duo-chrome white gold.

The third column:

L-R: pearl bluey grey-green ( such an unusual colour), pearl sage green with gold shimmer, shimmer aquatic green (MAC Steamy dupe), pearl mint green, shimmer yellow green, shimmer golden peach, shimmer gold with peach, shimmer champagne.

The fourth column:

L-R: matte black, matte navy blue, matte black with silver shimmer, shimmer grey blue, pearl royal blue, matte stonewash blue, matte grey, matte white.

Overall, I tested these shadows for about a week, and I'm happy to report that they do not crease and they last around 12 hours with minimal fading.

Lipsticks and glosses

The first two colums are lipsticks and the last two are lipglosses. Be forewarned: please touch the lipglosses very lightly. I almost sent my finger completely through the first lipgloss I touched.

The first column:

L-R: a semi-sheer bronze with shimmer, full coverage red-brown, semi-sheer bronzey nude, sheer peach coral.

The second column:

L-R: full coverage plum with shimmer, semi-sheer nude light brown, full coverage red, semi-sheer bronze peach

Lipglosses (3rd column)

L-R: full coverage pink-purple (my fav!), semi-sheer coral pink, full coverage peach, sheer nude with gold shimmer.

Lipglosses (4th column):

L-R: semi-sheer pink brown, semi-sheer milky pale peach, sheer nude, sheer peach.

Overall the lipsticks and glosses apply very smoothly the lips. The glosses are a bit on the thick side so they last longer and you don't really feel the glitter on your lips. The lipsticks are easy to apply and will last around four hours before retouching. None of the lip products have that waxy smell that is often common in palettes like these.

Blushes and Bronzers

Bronzers and Illuminator

L-R: Caramel ( I could use this almost like a face powder except for the shimmer), dark caramel with micro shimmer, pale peach with micro shimmer.

The only one of these I can review as to how they are supposed to work is the illuminator. It's easily buildable and it imparts a soft glow.

Blushes

L-R: rose pink, warm peach, light peach with shimmer.

The only one that works on me is the warm peach. I think it's pretty and it can be built up to be more intense. The formulation makes the product easily blendable without it being chalky with lots of fall out.

Instructions

Apply a neutral eyeshadow base all over the eyelid and up to the brow bone. In the inner third of the eye apply Clinique's purple shade. Next apply Jordana's High Maintenance all over the remaining eyelid. Using a pencil brush apply MAC's Grape Pigment to the crease. Blend in Carbon to the outer corner. Next apply Melt My Heart from the inner to corner to the brow bone. Softly blend the edges of the eyeshadows together to erase any harsh lines. Line the inner lower lashline with the white eyeliner. Draw a thick line on the upper lashline and wing out slightly at the outer corner with Milani Color Brilliance eyeliner. Lightly line the lower lashline with the Milani eyeliner. Finally apply two coats of mascara to the top lashes.

Mix the two shades of the blush duo together and apply with a kabuki brush to the cheeks.

Line lips with NK Eggplant lipliner and lightly blend into lips. Apply Lala to lips.

Instructions

Apply Indianwood over the entire eyelid. Next apply Amber Lights all over the lid and Museum Bronze into the crease. Blend the two shadows together. Next take a pale white gold from the 120 palette and use as a highlight on the browbone. Line the lower waterline with the white eyeliner. Line the top lashline with medium thickness using Milani Color Brilliance Black eyeliner. Draw a thin line on the bottom lashline. Apply two coats of mascara to the top eyelashes.

Apply Ambering Rose to the cheeks.

Line lips with a brown lipliner and then rub it into lips. Dab Miracle onto the lips until they are fully covered.

NYX Mega Shine Lip gloss in La La

NYX Mega Shine Lip gloaa in La La is a watermelon pink with shimmer. It applies almost sheer to lips with a slight pink cast. The shimmer is fine but

one can feel it if they rub their lips together but it's not too uncomfortable. The scent is the typical strong cherry scent from NYX that fades in a matter of minutes after application. The biggest selling point of these lipglosses is the slanted doe foot applicator which is perfect for gals (or guys) with fuller lips. The lipgloss lasts about three hours on its own before reapplication. Rating: 3.9/5.

NYX Tango with Bronzing Stix in Merengue Flush ( is it just me or does the first part of the name a bit wtf?) is a rose pink with gold shimmer. The product contains 0.49oz of bronzing goodness, which is the exact same amount contained in the MAC Surf Baby Skinsheen Bronzer released earlier this year for the summer. Well to me its obvious that this shade isn't really going to give anyone a bronzed look but it's better used as a multiple for the face and body. On the cheeks just above the cheekbone it imparts a 'lit from within' glow, on the brow bone a tiny dab makes a great highlight. On the body it's a great shimmer for the decolletage or where ever else you want to put it. For some it may contain too much gold shimmer for others it would be perfect. The product itself is creamy and easy to use, just don't go over board with it. Rating: 4.35/5.

I can sum up these eyeshadows in one word: dusty. NYX 10 Color Eyeshadow Palette in Romance is dusty. Dusty meaning that yes the colour is there, the texture is okay but the eyeshadow itself doesn't seem to bind together well. Maybe if it was marketed as sheer eyeshadows I would understand the dustiness but it is not, so I was expecting these to be well formulated.

The bottom row applies better to the lid than the top row but you can't really blend with either row. The shadows just disappear into nothing. I find that NYX single shadows are of way better quality than those featured in this pan. Another thing is that palette doesn't contain a single crease shade. Even the grey shade is too light to contour the crease properly. Honestly, I wouldn't buy this again. Rating: 2.7/5.

Wet N Wild Vanity Palette (the matte medium brown and shimmery vanilla shades)

Milani Liquif'Eye Pencil in Black

L.A. Colours Auto Eyeliner in White

Maybelline XXL Pro Volume Mascara

Instructions

Apply skintone concealer to eye area up to brow bone.

Using a contour shadow brush, sweep the dark bronze shade of Illusionary/ Burning Ambition mid way into the crease, concentrating on the outer area.

Using the the same brush sweep the matte brown shade into the inner corner of the crease until it meets the dark bronze shade. Apply the shimmery vanilla shade to the brow bone and blend lightly.

Pat Woodwinked onto the eyelid and use a blending brush to softly blend it into the crease.

Take an angled eye brush and line inner half of the lower lashline with Woodwinked. Line the outer half with the dark bronze shade.

Line the waterline with white eyeliner.

Give the top lashline a thick with a winged tip at the end with Milani Liquif'Eye pencil in black.

Line the outer half of the bottom lashes with Graphblack.

Apply Maybelline Mascara to top and bottom lashes and you're done!

Tip: Add long lashes to your top lashline to vamp up the look!

Best Drugstore Eyeshadow Ever! Period.

Jordana Color Effects Eyeshadows are the best drugstore eyeshadows. Hands down. No arguing, because I'm not even going to acknowledge it. There was a time in a not too long ago recent past that Jordana eyeshadows sucked. I mean they were down and out crappy. But someone in that company decided that it was time for a change and decided to reformulate its entire line and thank heavens that they did. These Color Effects eyeshadows are in one word: awesome. Yes, I am saying that these eyeshadows beat other brands such as Almay, Revlon, Maybelline, Cover Girl, Black Opal, Amuse, Prestige, L.A. Colors, L'Oreal, NYX, Milani, Wet N Wild and the infamous 120 Color Palette ( I don't care if its the one by Coastal Scents, Manly, BH Cosmetics etc. let's just admit that they're all the same with different companies' name stamped on them). I can say with authority that they are better than all the others mention because I've owned all of them. Now some of these brands do create great quality eyeshadow but the problem lies in that they are not consistant. You may buy one colour and get great texture and colour payoff and then you buy another colour and its all faded, the colour doesn't show and the shadow feels like chalk. And this my friends is the great downfall in many drugstore brands. Anyone can make a great lipgloss, but few can make consistantly great eyeshadows. This holds true for all brands across all price points.

Now let's get down to the texture of these of these babies.

The texture of these eyeshadows put them right in line of MAC's veluxe pearl eyeshadow formula. The smoothness, application and look are right up there the veluxe pearl formulation. More to the point they feel exactly like MAC's Antiqued eyeshadow, and everyone knows what a honey Antiqued is. Now these aren't on the powerhouse level of the veluxe pearl eyeshadows, the creme de la creme like Woodwinked, that is oh so buttery and probably one of the greatest eyeshadow formulations ever! Jordana Color Effects eyeshadows are definately cut from the same cloth as Antiqued, probably have the same DNA too, lol. They apply easily to the lid and lasts up to nine hours with a base.

Jordana Color Effects eyeshadow doesn't come in a wide range of colours. I think I saw about fourteen the last time I went to the store. The two that I will feature today are Over The Taupe and Bronzeville. Over the Taupe is a grey brown with extremely fine micro silver shimmer. This colour makes a great base for a light smokey eye or as a transitioning colour. It also looks good in the crease. Bronzeville is a peachy gold with noticeable gold shimmer particles but they don't fall over the place when applying it to the eyelid. Rating: 4.7/5.

Jordana Eyeshadow in Wild Vines

Jordana eyeshadow in Wild Vines comes in a pencil form. It is grass green in colour with micro gold shimmer. Although the point of the shadow is quite firm, it glides easily across the skin. It reminds me alot of Milani's Color Brilliance pencils. The difference is that the product can spread alot easier across the lid like a cream eyeshadow for a sheerer all over wash but it doesn't crease. Or you can use it as an eyeliner. My favourite way to use it is to line the top eyelash line with a black eyeliner as usual and then trace Wild Vines behind it for a pop of colour that is so pretty. Another tip is to use it as a base for MAC's Sumptuous Olive eyeshadow, as it really pulls out the green in it. Rating: 4.48/5.

E.L.F. Studio Eyeshadow "C" Brush

I got this brush a little over seven weeks ago from my best friend, who had bought it while in Florida to review. But I got busy. Busy using this brush nearly ever damn day! I broke my golden rule and used the brush first without photographing it first. And every time I wash it, I tell myself that I'm going to photograph it but I wind up using it still.

The e.l.f. eyeshadow "c" brush has a long matte black handle, while the ferrule is a shiny black. The brush hairs are synthetic. It fits in nicely with my MAC brushes and it doesn't look cheap at all. The hairs are in a gentle c-shape and are packed densely together. However this brush is not hard and feels gentle against the skin. It's great for patting on eyeshadow as it fits into the crease perfectly. I have washed this brush several times since I've had it and I haven't lost any hairs from it. Rating: 4.49/5.

NYX Mega Shine lipgloss in Smokey Look is a peachy nude with micro shimmer. It goes on semi-opaque and the glitter is so fine that you don't even feel it when you rub your lips together. It lasts for at least 3-4 hours, even when I fell asleep with it on. And yes, it is the perfect complement to a smokey eyed look. Rating: 4.3/5.

And here it is ladies and gentlemen, the famed NYX Milk Jumbo Pencil. This pencil has been touted to be one of the greats in eyeshadow bases. From what I've watched on Youtube, lots of people love this pencil. They say its creamy, it brightens up any eyeshadow that they use, it doesn't crease etc. Basically, some call this the Holy Grail if you will in eyeshadow bases.

Here's my experience with it:

It's not that creamy. Maybe my Love Me 365 has me spoilt but I did not find this easy to apply to eyelid without a bit of tugging. Then it is not that easy to blend out because it isn't as creamy as it was purported to be. Finally, it hardly does anything to my eyeshadow. I really can't distinguish a notable brightness from when I'm wearing this and when the eyeshadow is on without any base. It however, doesn't crease which is one good thing in its favour. So it's a decent eyeshadow base that doesn't crease. It doesn't do anything else more than that in my estimation. Rating: 3/5.

Jordana Sunset Kiss Lip gloss ... a dupe for MAC's Nymphette?

I grabbed this lipgloss for one reason when I going through the $2 bin at the store... it reminded me of MAC's Nymphette lip gloss. A possible dupe? Jordana Sunset Kiss is a pink gloss with micro gold shimmer. The doe foot brush is a bit rough on the lips but not enough to cause actual damage. The gloss goes on mainly clear with gold shimmer but the good thing is that it doesn't feel gritty on the lips. It smells really nice like a watermelon Jolly Rancher lollipop. I could've told from the get go that MAC's Nymphette contains more peach than Sunset Kiss but it's kinda close to it but not quite. So I wouldn't call it a full on dupe but it's a nice alternative. Rating: 4/5.

NYX's Mega Shine Lip gloss in Natural is neutral pinky brown or what some would call mauve type of colour. Imma be honest. I was not going to buy this colour at all. I mean, look at it. It doesn't look that impressive in the tube at all. But one of my best friends was with me and she was all like 'girl you should get this', because she had it and loves it so I caved in and got it. First of all, let me say, I'm currently eating my words... this gloss is fantastic. First of all you get alot of product 0.53 fl oz or 15ml. Next look at that slanted doe-foot applicator. It is perfect for applying lip gloss to full lips like mine. It just contours around your lip line so easily and smoothly. But if you have thin lips, I would recommend just using the upper half of the brush. The product itself is absolutely sublime. It glides on like no other. It is sooo smooth without being slippery and it does add a bit of moisture to the lips. It feels so amazing on... sigh.... However, this product is highly scented. It has a cherry flavoured scent, so if you are highly sensitive to smells you may not like it, but the good news is that it fades soon after you put it on. The colour itself provides semi-opaque coverage on my quite pigmented lips, which is saying alot. Because usually colours like these don't show up well on my lips. The lip gloss is well, very glossy but it does say 'mega shine' in the title, so if you don't want high shine lips then don't but this because it lives up to its name. The lipgloss lasts about 3-4 hours in normal conditions and of course you have to reapply after eating. Rating: 4.9/5.

A NYX Cosmetics Store opened right here in Barbados yesterday October 1st 2011. I'm sooo excited!!! I always wanted more access to NYX products, and I thought I would have to order them online but now I don't have to! The makeup gods are smiling on me :) The store is located in Sheraton Centre and it has practically everything on the NYX website. Maybelline XXL Pro Volume Mascara

The Maybelline XXL Pro Volume Mascara brags of delivering eleven times the volume to your lashes as a regular mascara. To do this, it comes with a dual end applicator. On one side is a white primer and on the other is the mascara. You apply the primer first and then the mascara. Well honestly I don't know what my lashes would look like at eleven times the volume but I do know that this mascara does make a big difference to my lashes. My lashes looked a lot longer and more voluminous after applying this product. This mascara last all day and it doesn't leave your lashes feeling hard or crispy. It isn't waterproof, so don't get it wet, but there is a waterproof version to this available. Rating: 4.4/5.

Wet N Wild Vanity Palette

This palette, the Wet N Wild Vanity, ladies and gentlemen is famous. For the past year, everybody and their mama has been talking about it. It has been featured on numerous blogs and on various youtube videos. And now after months of haunting the one store in Barbados, that I know of that carries the line, I've finally found it. It's mine! My sweet precious *insert evil laugh*

This palette contains three matte shades and three shimmer shades. The matte shades are a pale peach, a soft brown, and a deep red-brown. The shimmer shades are vanilla, yellow gold and bronze. The matte shades are really well done. These are nicely pigmented without being chalky and they blend together well without fading. They could really teach a couple of the high end brands how to do mattes properly. The shimmer shades are quite smooth and don't really have any fallout. These shades last about six hours with a base, and then you have to reapply because they have faded quite a bit. The longevity is not that impressive since I have many shadows that last about twelve hours with a base. In all, this palette is great for persons at any level, and many different looks can be yield because it's easy to mix and match the matte and shimmer shades. Rating: 3.9/5.

At first I had heard that we weren't getting MAC Me Over and I was so disappointed, but when I called this week to check on any new collections I learned that MAC Me Over was infact in store and so was Styledriven! So naturally I hauled my butt over there on the quick! I got three lipsticks from this collection: Oh, Oh, Oh, Offshoot and Runway Red.

Oh, Oh, Oh

Oh, Oh, Oh is a bronze with gold shimmer. The lipstick goes on sheer as it is a lustre lipstick, and it's also pretty moisturizing. This shade can work pretty much on all skin tones and it's wearable for both day and night. You'll probably have to reapply after three hours and definately after meals. Rating: 4.3/5.

Oh, Oh, Oh

Offshoot

Offshoot is a plummy rose. This is a cremesheen lipstick with opaque coverage.The lipstick glides on easily and looks really nice on. I think with this one, you may need to a lipliner that's close to your skintone to make it wearable for your colouring. It has the potential to be a universally flattering shade if you figure out how to work with it. I estimate that this lipstick would make it to the four hour mark before a touch-up is necessary. Rating: 4.4/5.

Offshoot

Runaway Red

This right here is my iconic red lipstick. This lipstick right here is the reason I wanted M.A.C. Me Over, I saw a swatch of it online and fell in love. I don't have a true red lipstick, and now I finally do. Runaway Red is a true blue based red, thus making it one of the few universally flattering red lipsticks available. The lipstick just seems to work with your colouring. It looks different on a variety of skintones from what I've seen posted online but they all have one thing in common... it just works. It just does. This lipstick is a satin finish, so its a bit on the dry side, but I don't mind because its the dryness that helps the lipstick not to bleed after you apply it, which is what red lipsticks are infamous . I love it. The end. Rating: 4.8/5.

Styledriven

Now the Styledriven collection is supposed to a permanent addition to the MAC range. All the products are created from the Pro Longwear formula. This collection featured eyeshadows (these are twice the size of the normal eyeshadow), lip pencils, lipglosses, and matte lipsticks. I must say after viewing and swatching the majority of the products that it is actually a pretty cohesive collection and a great addition to the MAC permanent range. As this collection is permanent, there isn't really a rush to go get right now. I bought only one eyeshadow: Sweet Satisfaction.

Sweet Satisfaction

Sweet Satisfaction (ignore all the sparkles please, it was busy swatch day)

Sweet Satisfaction is silvery taupe shade. The texture is smooth and nearly buttery. It reminds of the Veluxe Pearl finish. MAC claims that it's supposed to last up to eight hours. Well right now I'm entering hour number seven as I type this and it's still looking as fresh as it did when I first put it on this morning. Since then, I've been out shopping, walked through the sun, ran some errands, and I'm still good. The shade itself is perfect for every day wear especially for a school and work environment. It's also one of those shade that lends itself to be glammed up when paired with other shades. Pro Longwear eyeshadows are 0.11 ounces, which is more than double the size of the regular shadows that are 0.05 ounces. Rating: 5.

Product Review: Revlon Colorstay Eyeshadow Quad in Sunrise, Sunset

I've often passed this quad even though I had thought it was very pretty everytime I saw it. But since some Revlon shadows tend to be very hit and miss, I left alone, until now. I must say that I'm glad that I bought it. There are lot worse things to spend $20 on. Sunrise, Sunset first off, is quite pretty just to look at. The colours are a matte soft peach, a shimmery gold, a duochrome purple that flashes blue which reminds me of MAC's Stars 'N Rockets, and a buttery dark red based purple that's easily the best quality in the quad. The peach and gold are quite easy to work with and show up easily. The purple duochrome is the most difficult, in that you have to pack on alot of colour for it to show up even though it swatches easily. As I mentioned before the dark purple is the best one in the bunch and its a dream to work with. This quad is apart of Revlon's 12 hour colorstay range. All of the other colours except the purple duochrome could probably last the 12 hours with minimal fading. You may have to reapply the duochrome after six hours. Rating: 4.1/5.

UPDATED: After trying this quad again, I've decided to downgrade it. I find that overall the shadows are a bit too powdery, and don't apply as easily to lid as I would like. Rating: 3.6/5.

I know! It does look quite similar to my MAC Goldmine and Stars 'N Rockets look. Maybe this could be the cheaper dupe for it.

Product Review: O.P.I. Eieffel For This Color

This colour pulled a switcheroo on me. In the bottle it looks like a blue based purple with violet shimmer. On the nails it's definately red based and it pulls more burgundy than purple on me. The application is smooth but blotchy, in that it has colour patches; opaque in some areas and see-through in others.

Even though the colour pulls more burgundy than purple, it's still a very pretty colour and it's perfect for fall. It's just not what I thought it was. The nails dry to a very glossy finish with no need for a top coats unless you want one. Rating: 3.9/5.

NYX Lipstick Haul: Reviews and Swatches!

Yeah, I didn't get to go purchase new batteries, so I mixed and matched some old ones and they held out until I had gotten the pics *yay*.

** Lala looks more true to life here on the arm swatch than it does on the pics with the lip swatches. I couldn't take too many pics to get it right because of the limited battery power.

Cream

Here is NYX Cream by its self.

Here's how I would wear it: MAC Chestnut lipliner and Bright & Perky lipglass

Like most of these lipsticks by NYX, Cream applies similar to MAC's Lustre lipsticks. Cream is fairly moisturising but I would recommend a lip balm to wear underneath it. It's a light taupe brown colour with silver shimmer. It would make a great nude for medium skin tones, as it's a tad too light for me, but I can make it work for skintone so it isn't a problem. Rating: 3.8/5.

Java

Worn with Chestnut lipliner

Java is a silvery taupe colour with micro iridescent shimmer. This is not an everyday lip colour. It's more for a party/club type atmosphere. It glides on easily and its a bit sheer but it's easy to build up the colour. Rating: 4.2/5.

Lala

Sorry about the blurriness, it's being worn with MAC's Currant lipliner.

Lala is a cool toned pink based purple. It applies full coverage like the MAC Amplified finish lipsticks. It goes on smoothly and has some moisture to it so it won't dry your lips out. Rating: 4.2/5.

Miracle

With Chestnut lipliner. Don't do like me: blend in the liner properly.

Miracle is surprising in terms of colour and looks. I honestly picked it just because it looked pretty. In the tube its an orange-red with a duochrome gold shimmer effect. However when swatched it's actually a pinky red with gold duochrome. It's actually quite wearable on my skin tone as it goes on sheer and I can pair it with almost anything. Rating: 4.3/5.

Goddess

Chestnut lipliner

Goddess is easily the most wearable out of the five lipsticks. It's also the sheerest and the most mositurizing. It's a brown based orange with silver shimmer. I can wear it as is straight from the tube with no alterations. Darker skinned ladies may want to use a brown liner first and then apply the lipstick. Rating: 4.4/5.

Sneak Peak! NYX lipstick haul.

I bought these lipsticks yesterday, after I learnt that we wouldn't be getting the MAC Me Over Collection after all, so to quench my disappointment I picked up these instead. Now I had been thinking about ordering some of these lipsticks online since they are hard to find down here but lo and behold when I walked into #1 Beauty Supply, they had them in a stand on the floor in their makeup section. Now they don't have the full range of NYX lipstick colours as NYX has about 144 colours and they had about 20. But as I was mainly on the hunt for nudes mainly, their colour selection was quite adequate.

Now I know I normally don't do sneak peaks unless it's alot of products but as my camera batteries were on its last leg. I only took product photos. As Tropical Storm Maria is rumbling outside, you know who isn't venturing out until the storm passes, which hopefully will be tomorrow. Then I'll do a full review including lip swatches. Anywayz, enough talking, on with the pics.

Stripped!! Down to Basics... what every woman needs in her makeup bag.

This is a down to the grassroots sort of post if you will. This is the bare minimum in makeup. It's for the lady who doesn't fuss much about her appearance and just wants to go. It's for the beginner now starting to enter the world of makeup. It's for the enthusiast who is wondering 'what is missing?' from their kit. In other words, it's for everyone. All the items can be purchased for either BDS$30 or up to $300 or more. It all depends on your preference.

Now you'll notice that almost all the products featured have a used beaten look to them, and that's because I use them nearly every day! Okay, let's get started.

Foundation/ Face Powder

Milani Cream to Powder Foundation in Spiced Almond

Every woman need a foundation or powder that matches her skintone perfectly. However some of us might need to buy two shades (like yours truly) to get that perfect match. If your skin has some slight imperfections I would recommend to use foundation to even it out and to get rid of dark under eye circles. I would recommend to get a cream to powder finish foundation which dries down to matte look to avoid the face looking oily. For those with clear skin just use a powder in your shade to take away the shine from the face.

Eyebrow Pencil

Princessa Eyeliner Pencil in Dark Brown

I use this pencil every single day. Unless you're one of those people born with naturally lush eyebrows, you need this tool in your arsenal. Now there are pencils out there specifically for the brow area, but a normal eyeliner does the same thing and tends to be cheaper. For fair skin with blonde hair, I would recommend a light brown or ash pencil, for redheads an auburn pencils and for brunettes a dark brown pencil. No not black, never black. Even on the darkest skin, eyebrows filled in with black pencil look too harsh and fake, unless that's the look you're going for and in that case, carry on smartly. An eyebrow pencil will define your brow area and in turn define your face. Remember, your eyebrows above anything else can make or break your look.

Eyeliner

Milani Color Brilliance Eyeliner in Black

Everyone need a black eyeliner. Period. Full stop. With this pencil you can define your eyeshape, change it up depending on how you angle it, open up your eyes with innocence or darken them with seduction. The creamier and richer the eyeliner is, the easier it is to work with and better the results gained.

Matte Brown Eyeshadow

A matte eyeshadow is one that contains no shimmer or glitter. It is a flat colour. A brown matte eyeshadow is the most versatile eyeshadow in any makeup kit. It can be dusted over the lid for a natural look or it can be used to tone down bright eyeshadow colours without muddying up the colour. It's the colour you reach for when you realise that your lime green shadow is a bit too much out there and you need to to tone it down. It's the colour that every bride needs on her wedding day. It's the shade that goes with everything in your makeup kit.

Mascara

L'Oreal Voluminous Mascara in Black

Nothing opens up eyes better than a good mascara. The pop that it gives to eyes is unparallel to any other eyemakeup tool. Mascaras that thicken and lengthen lashes are the best for producing 'wide awake' eyes. Plus no eye look is complete without it. It just adds that finishing touch that brings everything together.

Lip Balm

Lip balm is not to be confused with lip gloss. It tends to be more waxy than lipgloss and adds moisture to the lips, lip gloss just sits on top of the lips, it does not add moisture. Lip balm is what you reach for to heal your chappy lips and to protect them against cold and heat. Some lip balms leave a slight sheen on the lips, while some leave none at all. The best lip balms contain some form of vitamin e, or cocoa and shea butters or honey. These ingrediants penetrate the outer layer of the lips to heal lips from the inside out.

Clear Lipgloss

Sunflower Cosmetics Grape (flavoured) lipgloss

Clear lipgloss has a variety of uses. It can be used by itself, or over a lipstick, or it can be mixed with pigment powders to create a coloured lipgloss. This is one of those products that you don't need to splurge on. It's one of the few things that every brand does well. So it's up to you to decide if you prefer the squeeze pouch, the sponge tip applicator, the pot or any other form it comes in.

Well I hope the above information has helped someone. As I said it's quite basic but it's the foundation of which most makeup looks are built.

Product Review: M.A.C. Fresh Brew Lustre Lipstick

I had finally built up the courage to venture into the nude lipstick category, but I didn't want to pick the wrong shade, so I asked the helpful people at the MAC counter to recommend a shade for me, and the answer was Fresh Brew. It seemed innocent enough: a taupe looking brown with a lustre finish, so I got it.

Let me just say that I love it! It's turning me into a nude lip fiend! I use it with in conjunction with MAC's Chestnut lipliner for the perfect nude look. It doesn't last long, about 3-4 hours and you have to reapply after eating but it looks so good on people of colour. I think persons with skintones darker than mine can wear it and so can person a few shades lighter. It goes on smoothly with shine and it's easy to build up on the lip. Rating: 4.5/5.

Get Cracked! Crack Nails for the Adventurous.

I've often seen crackling nail polish advertise in magazines but I had never seen them here in Barbados until last week at Fashionation in Sheraton. I stumbled across Queen's Color Crack Nail Polish display and immediately grabbed a couple of bottles. Prices from $8-$10.

Here's how it works: you apply any normal nail polish of your choice to your nails and let it dry. In these pics I used O.P.I.'s Shorts Story. Then you apply the crack nail polish on top. I used the black shade. The polish starts to crack immediately and dries quickly. The more coats you apply the more cracks you get. The above pic shows one coat because that's my preference.

The texture of the cracked nail polish is not smooth at all. It's actually quite bumpy as you can see in the close up pic below. Oh and make sure to apply in a well ventilated area, the fumes from this polish are quite strong. I like cracked nails, especially with bright colours, it reminds me of the 80s.

This is two coats.

Black Opal, Milani and MAC Foundation and Concealer Swatches

Black Opal Toast, Milani Honey

Black Opal Toast is a concealer stick with full coverage. It's a bit on the dry side but it's easy to smooth down and it stays put for hours. It also makes a great under brow highlighter for darker skintones. Milani Honey concealer comes in a pot form and tends to sweat a bit in the container if outside is really hot. But it applies as it normally would dry. This is also a full coverage concealer that is great for hiding under eye circles.

Milani Spiced Almond

Milani Spiced Almond is cream to powder finish foundation. This the shade equivalent for MAC NC45. This provides a light to medium coverage. However, it isn't buildable to full coverage, and trust me I tried. The foundation is smooth and silky to touch and comes with a hidden compartment for the powder puff. This foundation comes in the gold compact. I use this mixed with MAC's Studio Tech in NC50 for my perfect complexion shade.

Black Opal Suede Mocha

Black Opal's Suede Mocha is not listed on the Black Opal site, but I see it still being sold on line, so I sent an email asking what's their shade equivalent from the ones they have listed. I hope I get a response *fingers crossed*. I've used this on a client before and it applies beautifully and it's a full coverage foundation. I find applying foundations from a stick to be so easy and they're easier to walk with. I think this tone is for darker complexions, around NW50, and I love how it doesn't leave the skin looking ashy. Just smooth and slightly dewy.

However, it was harder to gather accurate comparisons for brands like Milani and Black Opal, due to lack of swatches and testers available. I remember the Black Opal display used to come with a pull out drawer but I don't seem them any more. Milani was also hard to pinpoint as even the swatches that Milani offer online are far from accurate as the product looks completely different in person.

If anyone have any shades that can fit into the blank spaces just leave a comment to let me know. Also if you know a better match than the shades listed, also let me know and I'll update it.

Also note that these are not exact matches. Some of the shade equivalents made be a tad bit lighter or darker or may contain a more yellow or red base. Generally speaking all of the MAC NC shades and their equivalents are yellow based and all of the MAC NW shades and their equivalents are red based.
